Atchee-ow!

….atchee-ow… or…how Luca talks about his time with Grand-Mom & Grand-Dad (and everything else for that matter)! Yes, while Luca can fully understand what’s being spoken to him in 3 languages (of course, only when he chooses to listen which is certainly not all of the time!), he still insists on making up his own words. Point in take – atchee-ow. Luca will atchee-ow everything – it’s his morning greeting as he pops up from his crib, it’s an airplane or a helicopter (we originally thought he was saying “aviao” = airplane in Portuguese), it’s his food or his desire to go and play outside…. it’s … well… everything. So does that mean he doesn’t speak in any of the “real” languages that are being thrown at him on a daily basis? Nope, not at all – he knows a few words here and there (“no” for sure but also helpful ones like “mom” and “ball”) but he’s definitely not on the talkative side in terms of “real” languages so imagine our surprise when I was scolding him for whining (oh how that drives me crazy!) last week and told him to stop whining at which point he responded “I did Mom!” (well, at least that’s what it sounded like!). Yeah…he understands us for sure and is probably waiting until he can formulate full sentences before he wants to speak with us – until then, we’re left wondering what all this atchee-owing is about…

In other news, we had quite a few busy weeks with Grand-Mom and Grand-Dad making their way to Brazil. It was their first time in South America (and their first time visiting a country that required them to obtain a visa ahead of time!) and they were happy to enter our summer time just in time to hang on to those ending days of sunshine and summer heat. Here are a few of our highlights…

There was plenty of playing….

Lots of getting to know new family members…

Searching for helicopters or atchee-ow’s….

Some pouting because the little diva didn’t get all of Grand-Mom’s and Grand-Dad’s attention 100% of the time…

LOTS of jumping on the bed (thanks to Opa who introduced this until then foreign concept which was, of course, newly reinforced by Grand-Mom and Grand-Dad)…

Lots of balcony and water fun…

Which sometimes ended like this…

And then there was a much-needed beach time…(after being stuck in traffic for 3 hours)

And lots of cuddles…

Yes, a very fun week it was indeed… until next time, Luca wishes you atchee-ow…

  1. Oh my gosh, Owen has the same problem! Only he says Ahhhhhh Maammma over and over again. But he definitely understands what we're saying and follows instructions even.

  2. Well, Luca sounds pretty smart to me! He's not even two yet! That's so great that he can already understand 3 languages, even if he's not speaking in sentences yet. It'll happen overnight, you just watch!Juju is such a little doll! How are you feeling? Sleeping yet?
