August visitors in the rain

Oh yes, it’s mighty time for a catch-up of all the fun and crazy things we’ve been up to. And no, I won’t be one of *those* bloggers to apologize for the radio silence….nope, we’ve been way too busy having fun in the cool and rainy fall weather known as August in Vienna.

My long-time friend, Nicole, came to visit with her daughter for what was certainly a super fun week despite the constant rain. We’ve been friends since the third grade (yup, that was fun for our teachers having two ‘Nicole’s’ sitting side by side all these years of our schooling) and it still amazes me how we manage to stay friends for so long despite my constant moves around the world. When we get together, we always pick up from where we left off the last time we chatted – no matter how much time has passed. As an extra bonus for me, I always get a chance to “catch up” then on everyone else’s life who has lived in that little town I grew up in!

But enough chit-chat, let’s see what happens when you unleash us in Vienna! A running theme for our week was “how our kids became obsessed with horses” – much in thanks to Nicole’s love for horses which meant that we spent a lot of time looking at and riding them.

Oh, and future visitors, please be forewarned of the crazy 5-D roller coaster cinema of Vienna’s Time Travel (a note to the guides: please, for the love of God, could you prepare parents with little kids for what is about to happen rather than ask them to strap themselves in and put on the 3D glasses and then turn up the movie to maximum volume??? I am just glad we skipped out of the “bunker” experience in the World War 2 exhibit …geez).

Anyway, let’s see some pictures!

Note to self; when the tour guide says "buckle" up as you enter the 5-D cinema at Vienna Time Travel, make sure to know where the closest exit is in case your kids can't handle all that motion while juggling their 3D glasses ....
