Another long weekend means another road trip!

This past Labor Day weekend we, yet again, packed up the car and kids and headed out of town. We spent a night in the quiet and beautiful Czech town of Olomouc where we hopelessly wandered the streets searching high and low for that perfect beer garden that our travel guide recommended.

It turns out it was a mere 5-minute walk from our hotel had we just turned left instead of right, oh well – that gave us more time to explore the beautiful downtown. On that note, dear people of the Czech Republic, it might  help tourists navigate your city if there were some street signs … just saying…

No clue where we are or what happened to street signs in this city!

After a night in Olomouc where we feasted on Czech beer and cuisine, we headed to Krakow, Poland. I admit I wasn’t too excited to go (my driving limit seems to hover around 4.5 hours, which was just the estimated time to return to Vienna, and that just seems terribly long for me … not such a concern for the kids who put on their headsets and watch Dora, the Explorer over and over and over again…). Speaking of driving, I also tested our car’s speedometer which seemed to concur with the police officer’s rating of going a *tad* bit over the speed limit while leaving the Austrian Autobahn (honestly, super sneaky speed trap if you ask me!)… very fortunately for me, I was able to talk myself out of it 🙂

Anyway, Krakow was absolutely stunning and beautiful! We really loved our time there although the salt mine tour was a bit long for everyone (seriously, a 2.5 hour walking tour gets a little old after about 45 minutes, right?) and wished we had stayed longer to take in a bit more of the city!

And the kids? Two highlights of their trip: 1. seeing horses and taking a carriage ride and 2. purchases of Playmobil horses and carriages …. thanks Nicole for instilling this love for horses in our children!
