May 1st is, of course, Labor Day (Tag der Arbeit) here in Austria so we set out to
hike take a “Zahnradbahn” (mountain train) to the highest mountain in Lower Austria – Schneeberg (=snow mountain). And, much to our surprise, we found tons of snow. About 2km above sea level, there certainly was snow.
It was cold. And beautiful. And icy. So icy, in fact, that all 4 of us wiped out as we were hiking and taking in the beautiful scenery – a situation only 2 of us (the bigger people) found amusing (not so much the 5 and under crowd).
And what’s a hike without the use of a first aid kit? Yup, not much.
And yes, a band-aid fixes everything in my kids’ minds – everything. Which is why I never leave home without them.
Overall, a fun outing on a beautiful day – and thanks to the lovely hiker who took this great picture (unsolicited) of all of us!
