Back in the USA

So we made it “back home” – 2 (long) flights without any sleep, 7 hours of time change, and all that fun later, we’re here – in the heat of Texas!

It’s been hard to belief that we haven’t been in the US in over 2 years and we are adjusting to some of those American oddities we haven’t encountered in a while – can you say “reverse culture shock?” Like the abundance of choice when you shop for anything (oh the shopping!), the larger than life parking spaces, the fact that Tex-Mex food is actually seasoned and spicy (yum!), the absence of price tags with a correct price (apparently, shoppers are supposed to scan their merchandise for that “price check”), and the fact that you never know what your total price will be until taxes have been added in at the end. But, we’re “surviving!”

And enjoying some heat and lots of swimming time! See?

Oh, and we learned that Luca is apparently blind. During a preschool screening, they noted a spatial vision problem, which seemed to make sense to us since he always had a bit of a challenging time catching a ball. But it turns out that he “just” couldn’t see a thing….yup, he was pretty blind until today!

May I present? Luca’s new look!

And, finding that perfect pair of blue/green glasses only took searching dozens of stores and every bit of my patience, but hey, we found them. Now onto convincing him to keep on wearing them, that’s another story!

  1. Welcome back! I hope you got a 2 for 1 deal, because with kids it’s always good to have a backup. Conor lost one of his pairs of glasses within 36 hours of getting them. (In the airport on the way back to Sao Paulo last year.) Good luck!
